PARLIAMENT SLAMS MPS OVER REDEPLOYMENT OF CORRUPT OFFICERS

Parliament has slammed a controversial decision made by Malawi Police Services (MPS) to redeploy eight officers implicated in acts of bribery.

Late last week, the Service Administration Officer in the office of the Inspector General issued an internal memo confirming the redeployment of 6 traffic and 2 Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers to the general duties department.

Taking its turn on the matter, Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) through its Chairperson Shadreck Namalomba, is revealing plans to engage the Inspector General to press for prosecution of the incriminated officers.

Earlier in the day, the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) also questioned MPS conduct on the matter.

HRDC National Coordinator Luke Tembo acknowledged that their organization is yet to engage the MPS for failing to bring the corrupt officers to book.
