US eases Kenya and South Africa travel restrictions

The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has eased travel advisories for Kenya and South Africa as many countries’ vaccination programmes against Covid-19 progress.

The US has downgraded Kenya’s travel advisory to Level Two, from Level Four, allowing American citizens to travel into the East African country but with caution.

Under the fresh advisory published on 8 June by the US State Department, travelers coming to Kenya have been cautioned to “beware of health issues”.

The US has further warned its citizens to desist from travelling to the Kenya-Somalia border and some coastal areas because of insecurity.

The advisory has also placed South Africa at Level 3, allowing US travellers who are fully vaccinated to visit. However, the change does not mean that South Africans can travel to the US.
