Chakwera In Mozambique For SADC Summit

President Lazarus Chakwera has arrived in Maputo, Mozambique for a day-long SADC Heads of State and Government Extraordinary Summit.

The plane carrying Chakwera landed at Maputo Airport soon after half-past seven in the morning, where he was welcomed by Mozambique Minister of Education and Human Development, Carmelita Namashulua and the Malawi delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eisenhower Mkaka.

From the airport, Chakwera went straight to Avenida Hotel where he was welcomed by Deputy Minister of Transport, Nancy Mdooko, before proceeding to the meeting.

President Chakwera is expected to deliver his speech at the meeting as the Incoming Chairperson of SADC.

Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, who is current and outgoing Chairperson of SADC is expected to open the summit at Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre in the city.

The meeting will among other things discuss issues of peace and security, food security, COVID-19 pandemic and energy.

The summit takes place under the theme: ‘SADC: 40 Years Building Peace and Security, and Promoting Development and Resilience in the Face of Global Challenges’
