DPP Squabbles: Grezelder Jeffrey fires warning shots

Dust is refusing to settle in the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regarding the leadership of the Party ahead of the elective conference slated for July 2023.

According to inside sources, some top officials are creating new structures on the grounding ahead of the elective conference.

Report shows in the southern region 12 more political districts have been created with an aim of canvasing votes for a certain presidential candidate ahead of the elective conference.

But reinstated DPP Secretary General Greselder Jeffrey has said the arrears will not be accepted and has warned the regional governors to desist from the malpractice.

“It has come to the attention of my office that some regions are creating structures without the knowledge of the central committee.

“ I wish to categorically state that those structures that have purportedly been created without the mandate of the central committee as indicated above, will not be recognised anywhere within our institution,” said Jeffrey in the latter.

She added: “I write to remind you that it is against our own party constitution, under sub-heading organisation structure, on items 6 and 7, that the mandate to form a new district or change the boundary of existing district is the preserve of the central committee.”

Four people namely; former Reserve Bank Governor Dalitso Kabambe, DPP Vice President for Eastern Region Bright Msaka, Joseph Mwanamvekha and leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa are vying for the Party Presidency.

The four want to replace former President Peter Mutharika and represent the party in 2025 general election.
