Court Clears On Chilima Receiving Donation From Convicted Businessman Thom Mpinganjira

High Court in Blantyre has clarified that Vice President Saulos Chilima never received a donation from the convicted business mogul Thom Mpinganjira but a loan which he paid.

High court judge Dorothy den Gabriella said this today when delivering a verdict in Mpinganjira judges’ bribery case.

According to Judged de Gabriella in August 2018 Chilima received K40 million from Mpinganjira through a bank employee and the money was paid back.

“The bank employee confirmed collecting back K40 million from Dr. Chilima as loan payment. Dr. Chilima also got a loan of K350 million from FDH bank,” said Judge de Gabriella.

The Judge made these pronouncements as she gave background to the case where Mpinganjira is being accused of bribing judges.

This is contrary to what Mpinganjira said earlier during his case’ trial that he donated money to a number of political party leaders including the incumbent president Lazarus Chakwera.
