DPP’s Presidential Case Underway At High Court

The High Court in Blantyre is this afternoon continuing with deliberations in a case in which opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) wants the court sanctioned June 23 2020 fresh presidential election to be nullified.

In the morning proceedings, the court discovered that some documents filed by the claimant had signatures of former Malawi Law Society president Burton Mhango, instead of DPP lead counsel Charles Mhango.

Following court’s observations, Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda asked the court to throw out the documents arguing that forgery is a serious criminal offence.

Charles Mhango apologized to the court on the matter.

Delivering ruling on the matter, chairperson of the panel of judges in the case, Sylvester Kalembera said the irregularity can be cured.

Kalembera also faulted Mhango for bringing faulty documents being an experienced lawyer.
