Chiwaya’s burial Saturday: Atupele pays tribute

The body former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Clement Chiwaya will be laid to rest at his home village in Mangochi this coming Saturday.

Chiwaya shot himself to death on Thursday in front of clerk of Parliament Fiona Kalemba in the capital Lilongwe.

UDF Acting Spokesperson Yusuf Mwawa confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Mwawa, the body of Chiwaya would depart Goodwill homes to Mangochi at 5pm today.

Meanwhile United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi has expressed his sadness over the passing of Chiwaya.

“The death of Hon. Dr. Clement Chiwaya has shocked all of us. We are waiting for an official report to shed more details on the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident at Parliament today. At this time let us pay solemn homage to one of Malawi’s finest sons.

“Against all the odds that life had presented him, Dr. Clement Chiwaya rose to become a senior member of our National Executive, Member of Parliament for over 15 years, successful businessman, former Cabinet Minister and former Deputy Speaker of our National Assembly. He was intelligent, a loyal friend, advisor, a family man and devoted to his faith. My condolences go to his family during this tragic time and we pray that the almighty comforts them. May you rest well Brother, and untill we meet again,” wrote Atupele.

Parliament has since reacted to the suicide incident.
