Woman takes own life over missing bananas in Dedza

A 28 year old woman in Dedza has taken her own life after some of her children invaded the house and went away with a bunch of bananas.

Dedza Police Spokesperson Edward Kabango has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press and has identified the deceased as a Likineti Jere.

Kabango said the woman committed suicide after she suspected that her children had stolen her bananas,which she had kept in the house.

According to Kabango, the deceased together with her 2 year old child went to attend a wedding ceremony at a nearby village.

“The deceased returned home while drunk and upon checking the roof of house, she found her bananas missing,” said Kabango.

According to Kabango, the deceased suspected her children to have a hand on the missing bananas.

“Immediately she started hunting for the children but she failed to apprehend them. She then rocked herself and the 2 year old child in house and took some pesticides out of anger,” added Kabango.

The deceased died on the spot while the child is admitted at Dedza District Hospital.
