Road Engineering Company Threaten To Hold 10 Day Vigil Over Unpaid Salary

Workers at Road Engineering Contractors (REC), the main material subcontractor supplier for the Karonga Town Water Project, are threatening to hold a ten-day vigil if they do not get their three months’ salary arrears by Tuesday next week.

They intend to hold the vigils at the China State Construction Engineering Company premises, the main contractor for the project.

In a memo, REC Managing Director Wavisanga Silungwe says K34 580 000 (Thirty Four Million Five Hundred and Eighty Thousand Kwacha) remains unsettled 50 days after an invoice was issued for supplying gravel stones at Bwibwa Water Tank.

Officials of the China State Construction Engineering Company are yet to comment on the matter.

The memo further shows the vigils are expected to start on 27th October 2021.
