Police teargas disrupt MSCE exams at Chinamwali Private School in Zomba

At least 14 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) candidates in Zomba did not sit for Chichewa Paper 3 examinations after Police fired teargas at Chinamwali Private School premises while examinations were in progress on Monday.

Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) Executive Director Dorothy Nampota confirmed of the development, adding that eight of the affected 14 who were rushed to Zomba Central Hospital after collapsing.

According to Nampota, the candidates are now feeling better.

Chinamwali Private School boarding master Dziwani White said Police fired teargas amidst running battles between communities, who joined minibus owners demonstrations to force government to reduce toll gate fees at Chingeni.

Minibus Owners Association of Malawi has since called off the protests.
