Teargassed Candidates Will Not Sit For Missed Chichewa Paper 2

Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) candidates who failed to sit for Chichewa Paper 2 examinations in Zomba after falling ill on Monday 8 November 2021 will not resit the paper, Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) discloses.

The 14 candidates were affected by teargas which the police used when they were controlling minibus drivers’ strike in Zomba.

According to MANEB spokesperson Mayamiko Chiwaya, the affected candidates were sitting for their exams at Chinamwali Private School Examination Center.

Chiwaya has disclosed that since the students already sat for the other Chichewa papers, the examining body will use an administrative approach in grading the affected students for the paper they missed.

“It is for these two reasons we will not let them sit for a deferred paper, the first one is that they are few so we can ably manage them administratively and they already sat for other two Chichewa papers so our approach will work,” said Chiwaya.
