Two people arrested for possessing fake maize seeds in Mulanje

Police in Mulanje have arrested two men for alledgedly being found in possession of counterfeit maize seeds.

Mulanje Police Station spokesperson Gresham Ngwira said the two are Fasty Makwacha, 30 and Master Chikhwaya, 25.

Ngwira said the Risk and Security Manager for Bayer Malawi, Davie Zithe, on November 29 this year, received information that some businessmen were selling counterfeit seeds.

He said the information further said laboratory tests on a bag of DKC 80-33 bought at Makwacha’s shop, found that the seeds were fake.

Following a complaint, police officers followed up the issue and arrested the two suspects on Monday, December 6, 2021.

The two will appear in court soon.

Makwacha hails from Nkhakamira Village while Chikhwaya hails from Kanyandula Village both of Senior Chief Mabuka in Mulanje.
