Malawi police service has confirmed the arrest of three Democratic Progressives Party (DPP) officials namely; Honorable Joseph Mwanamveka, Dr. Dalitso Kabambe and Honorable Ben Phiri.
In a statement signed by Public Relations Officer, James Kadadzera, Mwanamveka and Kabambe committed offence of abuse of office and fraudulent false accounting while working as Minister of finance and Governor of Reserve Bank of Malawi respectively.
The two, procured and masterminded the falsification of Gross Liability and Net Reserve Base returns with intent to make International Monetary Fund believe that the Government of Malawi was meeting conditions connected to the Extended Credit Facility.
Ben Phiri committed offence of procurement fraud and corruption at Ministry of Gender after he gave his company, Beata Investment a contract but it did not supply the materials needed.
