Govt interns to hold demos over unpaid allowances

8, 000 government interns are expected to hold demonstration after government failed to pay MK80 monthly allowance per intern for past consecutive eight months.

According to the Leader of the interns, Arthur Chadokota confessed that meeting daily social welfare needs is an uphill task while claiming that some government officials are uncooperative in addressing their economic grievances.

However, Deputy Labour Minister Vera Kantukule blames the situation on bureaucracy and system failure.

Malawi Congress of Trade Unions General Secretary, Madalitso Njolomole describes this as a lame excuse.

Government introduced one year internships as part of helping unemployed graduates gain work experience for self-employment.

The interns were employed in various ministries and departments.
