Bon Kalindo trial to commence in February

The Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate Court has set 1st February 2022 as trial commencement date for a case involving political activist, Bon Kalindo.

Kalindo is being charged with a case of publishing false information.

According to Malawi Police, on 9 October whilst addressing a crowd gathered for demonstrations in Mangochi, he published a false statement to the effect that late Clement Chiwaya, Former Deputy Speaker, was murdered at Parliament Building in the City of Lilongwe.

The Police further disclosed that Kalindo made a false statement in Mzuzu alleging that the Government was aware of those behind the gruesome murders of Persons with Albinism.

On Monday, Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate Wanangwa Nyirenda granted bail to the accused and ordered him to pay a cash bond of K50000 and two surities of K200 000 non- cash bond each.
