Police to intensify security during Christmas and new-year festivities

Northern Region Police have pledged to enhance patrols to ensure safety and security of lives and property during Christmas and the new-year festive season.

Northern Region Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Maurice Chapola, told Malawi News Agency on Wednesday, saying the law enforcers have increased their visibility in both rural and urban areas by, among other things, mounting emergency road blocks, conducting security mobile campaigns and ensuring that only road-worthy vehicles are on the road.

“We have already increased our visibility in both rural and urban areas besides enhancing security checks at our check points which include permanent and snap roadblocks. We have also embarked on security awareness campaign,” said Chapola.

He then advised the public to celebrate the season responsibly and be on guard against criminal acts which can end up spoiling their fun during the period

Vice block leader for Mzilawaingwe Location in Mzuzu City, Zao Farook, pledged tireless security work by the areas community policing. She said they would arrest and take to police anyone found roaming around during odd hours.
