Ex-MERA Boss Collins Magalasi Case Fails To Proceed As His Lawyers In Show

A case involving former Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) CEO Collins Magalasi, has failed to proceed this morning as lawyers for the accused failed to show up in court.

Lawyers for Magalasi and his co-accused, Bright Mbewe, sent letters of adjournment to court without delegating any legal counsel to represent them at the hearing.

The 2 are accused of abuse of office in connection to the procurement of a mobile fuel testing van at MERA worth K704 million.

According to Chief State Legal Advocate Dzikondianthu Malunda, the State was ready to parade 3 witnesses today.

Chief Resident Magistrate Patrick Chirwa has since adjourned the case to tomorrow morning, where the State will proceed with parading its witnesses.
