HRDC against 60 days amnesty announced by Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda

The Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has spoken against the 60-day-amnesty to corruption suspects.

Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda announced the amnesty on Monday, saying this will help in offloading cases that have been in courts for a long period of time.

But Nyirenda said the amnesty does not apply to individuals who were already convicted on corruption cases.

Beneficiaries of the Amnesty are those that will give evidence to trace people who might have committed various offences.

Speaking during media briefing in the capital Lilongwe (HRDC) board member Michael Kaiyatsa said the grouping is not convinced that the 60-day-amnesty by Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda will help to genuinely recover public assets.

Kaiyatsa has since called on government to stick to the existing laws in ending corruption.
