Two people killed by lightning in Mchinji

Two people have died while three others have been admitted to Kapiri Mission Hospital after being struck by lightning in Mchinji yesterday.

Station Officer for Mchinji police, Charles James Mpezeni has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Mpezeni, the victims who include a 24 year old woman and children below the age of 13, were in the house of their grandmother shelling groundnuts while it was raining heavily with thunderstorms.

He said the lightning struck five of them and all collapsed before they were taken to Kapiri Mission Hospital where the two died upon arrival.

William Chikhazika, father to the deceased told the press that the incident happened at Wilima village, Sub-Traditional Authority Kambuwe in the district when he went to attend funeral ceremony within the area, while his wife went to the farm.
