The Commissioner of Police responsible for Central West Region (CWR), Mr Peter Chasweka, has urged the community in Mchinji to desist from murder and mob justice acts.
He was speaking at Senior Chief Mlonyeni headquarters on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. He addressed a mammoth gathering enchanted by the crowd-pulling Blue Eagles Football Club which played a match against Mlonyeni select.
Said Commissioner Chasweka: “Let us guard jealousy for our peace and co-existence. We will not relent in stopping mob justice even if it means arresting a whole village”.
The Commissioner also dwelled on police-community relations, deplored suicide and drowning cases, and warned against offences related to Affordable Input Programme (AIP).
On another note, he advised the gathering to understand the insurgency happening in some parts of Mozambique, and to remain vigilant since Mchinji is a border area.
Speaking earlier on, the Station Executive Committee (SEC) chair for Mchinji, Grant Khola, pledged maximum support from community members on policing partnership.
Said Khola: “Let me take this opportunity to request your Regional office for extra reflectors, whistles and torches that will help us in carrying out the community policing activities better”.
On his part, the Station Officer for Mchinji Police Station, Senior Superintendent Charles Mpezeni, warned on several vices including smuggling, sexual offences and witchcraft accusations on elderly persons.
In his welcoming remarks, a representative of Senior Chief Mlonyeni thanked Police for organizing a security meeting in the area. The Councillor for Kalumbe ward, Yona Mtanga and other Senior group village heads were also in attendance.
In the end Blue Eagles won the match 6-0 against Mlonyeni select.
