Health authorities in Malawi should provide health care workers with all the necessary tools for them to work well.
Anna Ziba, Principal Nursing Officer at St. John’s Hospital in Mzuzu, made the call over the at Mzuzu Central Hospital during activities marking this year’s celebration of the International Midwives’ Day.
Ziba was guest of honour at the function that drew midwives from public, private hospitals and Christian Health Association of Malawi (Cham) institutions.
“This generation needs the support of midwives more than ever because of its vulnerability to various health challenges, but this can only be achieved if they (midwives) are given all the support that they need,” she said.
She also told midwives to nurture their profession, which she said was a “calling”.
“As per their profession, nurses need to be tolerant even though in most times poor working conditions and work pressure can affect their performances.
“Nurses are encouraged not to boycott work but rather resolve their complaints with responsible officers peacefully,” she advised.
