Kalindo’s case adjourned to March 28

The Zomba Magistrate court has adjourned to March 28 a case involving right activist Bon Kalindo who is answering a charge of of publishing false material.

Kalindo is alleged to have told a gathering in Mangochi, during demonstrations which he organised, that former Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Clement Chiwaya, was murdered at Parliament Building in Lilongwe.

Today the case resumed before Chief Resident Magistrate Austin Banda where the state parade two witnesses and of such witness being Officer-in-Charge of Firearms and Ballistics at Malawi Police Service, Lawrence Gondwe.

Gondwe told the court that former Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Clement Chiwaya committed suicide using a pistol that was found at the crime scene.

According to Gondwe, this is according to a forensic report that was produced following investigations into Chiwaya’s death.

Another witness, a senior CID officer Mervin Mbweza, said upon rushing to the scene, he was given what he says was Chiwaya’s suicide note.

The case has since been adjourned to March 28 where the state will parade four more witnesses.
