The Lilongwe Magistrates Court has granted bail to interdicted National Assembly Chief Security Officer Youngson Chilinda after a brief court appearance.

Chilinda was arrested for assaulting a Nation Publications Limited photojournalist Thoko Chikondi on parliament premises while covering the petitioning of parliament by the Consumers Association of Malawi.

According to Times reporter Golden Matonga, Magistrate Ernest Chimwembe granted the bail this afternoon after the state and Chilinda’s defense argued about the merits of his application.

The magistrate ordered Chilinda, an ex-soldier to surrender his travelling documents, enter a K10 000 bond and agree to a surety of one person or K20 000 cash.#Malawi
