Tobacco sales at Mzuzu auction floors ground to a halt on Thursday after buyers pulled out of auction buying, a development that ended with growers who were within floor premises stopping contract sales.
Given the sales schedule the floors follow, in which auction sales take place only on Wednesdays and Thursdays, the closest the sales might resume is Wednesday next week.
This, points to congestion not only in the warehouse but also outside the floors because the lot in the warehouse – 16,000 bales as of Thursday – is only moved when there are no bales on the auctioning floors, paving way for that on trucks to be offloaded into the warehouse.
