Social Commentator Chisa Mbele asks Chakwera to pardon prisoners jailed based on Dzamalala autopsy report

Well-known social commentator Joshua Chisa Mbele has asked President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to pardon all prisoners jailed based on autopsy report issued by Dr. Charles Dzamalala.

The request follows revelation that Dzamalala erred on autopsy report on the death of Kottana Chidyaonga in 2020.

The report led to the arrest of four people including Kottana’s boyfriend, Timothy Mtilosanje.

Writing on his official Facebook page Chisa Mbele said: “Based on the powers conferred upon you by the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi, we request that you exercise such Authority and order the immediate pardon of all prisoners who were found guilty of murder on the basis of the Pathological Reports by Dr Dzamalala.

“Thanks God that in this country we put a moratorium on death penalty, we would have executed innocent people.

“The Autopsy of Kottana Chidyaonga and the falsified Pathological Report, set aside by the Court and disputed by fellow medical doctors, is a conclusive evidence that we might be keeping people in jail who are innocent.

“Putting politics of the day aside, we appeal to your office for urgent remedial action. Any day longer in custody of an innocent person is too long.”

Meanwhile, Dzamalala has said that he will appeal the ruling.
