Mutharika blasts DPP official Ken Msonda: ‘Stop pausing as NGC member’

Former President Peter Mutharika has cautioned Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) top official Ken Msonda to stop peddling lies on his candidacy in the forthcoming 2025 polls.

The caution comes barely a week after some DPP officials led by regional governor for the South Charles Mchacha endorsed Mutharika as the party’s torchbearer.

In a statement signed by Mutharika’s spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba, the former President claims that he has not spoken to Msonda in the past 12 months.

He added that Msonda has always wished but without success, to be his political confidant.

“As spokesperson of His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, the former President of Malawi and President of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) I write to convey my His excellency shock and disappointment with Mr. Ken Msonda claiming about having regular conversation with the President on his candidacy for the 2025 presidential elections.

“Mr. Ken Msonda is well aware that for 12 months now he and the President have not spoken to each other. Mr. Msonda is also aware that he is not a member of the National Governing Council (NGC) of Democratic Progressive Party, because he was neither elected at the 2018 political conference nor subsequently appointed as one,” reads in part the statement.

Mutharika has since asked Msonda to back off.

Meanwhile, Msonda is yet to comment on the matter.
