Malawi Police Service speaks out on Namiwa’s abduction

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has said it has instituted an investigation on the abduction of Executive Director for the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) Sylvester Namiwa.

Namiwa was allegedly abducted 45 minutes after addressing the media Wednesday afternoon on today’s demonstrations pushing for President Lazarus Chakwera to remove his presidential immunity from prosecution.

In a statement seen by this publication, the police say they have received a complaint on the abduction of Namiwa.

“The Malawi Police Service (MPS) informs Malawians that it has officially received a complaint on the alleged abduction of Executive Director for the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) Sylvester Namiwa,” reads in part the statement signed Deputy National Police Spokesperson Harry Namwaza.
