KALIATI LAUNCHES 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GBV

The Minister of Gender Community Development and Social Welfare Patricia Kaliati has launched the 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence (GBV) campaign today in Dedza district.

Following the recall Kaliati made in the Parliament when delivering a ministerial statement on commemorating this year’s 16 Days of Activism, she asks Malawians and international members to take part in sharing information and messages to their families and friends on evils of GBV.

Kaliati further asked law makers to create awareness on GBV and laws that promote and protect women and children’s rights and report any form of violence to relevant stakeholders on such cases.

she added that, empowering girl and women has proved to be one effective way of reducing cases of GBV in the country.

According to the records, from January to September this year, the Malawi Police Service Victim Support Unit has recorded the breakdown of GBV cases as; 2,176 GBV cases  more in 2022 from 13,002 in 2021 to 15,17 178 GBV in 2022 recorded during the same period

The launch took place under the theme ‘Unite! Activism to end gender based violence in Malawi’
