9 month old baby dies from electrocution in Blantyre

Police in Blantyre have confirmed the death of a 9 month old toddler after being electrocuted by cable wires connected to a fridge.

According to Blantyre Police deputy publicist, Sergeant Aubrey Singanyama, the incident happened in Chirimba Township and identified the child as Eva Dula.

Singanyama said on December 5, 2022 around 6 pm, the child was crawling from the bedroom to the lounge and she started playing with Fridge cable wires that eventually electrocuted her.

She was discovered few minutes later whilst stuck to the Fridge and was taken to Chirimba Heath Centre where she was pronounced dead.

Postmortem results revealed that death was due to Cardiac arrest secondary to shock.

Dula hailed from Kampaza village in the area of Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre district.

Meanwhile, Police in the area are advising the public to always monitor their children to avoid accidents of this nature.
