Over 70 villagers are seeking refuge at Mikoma Beach in Karonga

Over 70 villagers who have been left homeless are seeking refuge at Mikoma Beach Lodge in Karonga following the strong wind that happened Sunday which blew off their houses.

The affected villagers have asked for support from government and other well-wishers.

Chairperson for Mwangolera Village Civil Protection Committee, Tonny Mwagomba confirmed the development.

Mwagomba said the affected individuals are in need of basic needs including shelter materials, food and tents.

According to Mikoma Beach Lodge Manager, Tiwonge Tchongwe, the facility thought of providing accommodation and meals to the displaced villagers as a way of giving back to the community they are operating in.

The council is expected to conduct an assessment today to determine extent of the damage.
