Senior Resident Magistrate Montfort Misunje has sentenced Jossam Kambalawira to 18 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a five-year-old girl.
Police prosecutor Sub Inspector Tisungane Makiyi, told the court that the suspect called the victim, promised to give her some sweets then he took her into a maize field where he defiled her.
Makiyi added that the suspect threatened to kill the victim if she will reveal the incident.
Kambalawira pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement which driven out the state to call five witnesses to prove the case which leads to his sentence.
According to Senior Resident Magistrate Montfort Misunje he gave out a tough sentence due to more cases of defilement which is destroying the lives of innocent little girls in the country.
The incident took place on May 2, 2020 at Mtsiliza in Lilongwe.
