The Malawi Writers Union (MAWU) is set to honour and award the best stories in the MK8 Million Peer-Gynt writing award tomorrow, September 26, at Latitude Hotel in the Capital city.

According to information sourced, the winner tomorrow will go away with MK500,000.00 while the runner up will cart home MK300,000.00 and the third person will get a MK200,000 prize. Apart from the monetary prizes, the top three will also have their manuscripts published by an undisclosed South African publisher.

Three people will also receive consolation prizes of MK50,000.00 each.

Earlier this year, the writers’ body called for unpublished manuscripts of not less than 40,000 words to enter into the Peer-Gynt writing competition that is supported by the Norwegian Embassy. From the calling, the body received about sixty manuscripts before they shortlisted thirteen from which tomorrow’s winners will be selected.

The stories were judged by Malawi’s own, Jack Mapanje, and Zambia’s Ellen Banda-Aaku, winner of the Commonwealth short story competition in 2007.
