Chakwera Bans Importation Of Uniforms For Govt Agencies

Malawi’s President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has taken a bold step in banning the importation of uniforms for government agencies, citing the need to prioritize local production and sourcing of such items.
Chakwera made the statement when delivering State of the Nation Address (SONA) at Parliament Building in Lilongwe in the morning.
The move comes in the wake of a recent discovery that some people or entities had imported Malawi Police Service uniforms, despite an earlier appeal to prioritize local procurement.
Economic experts have welcome the idea saying it does not make sense to drain forex on goods that can be locally produced or sourced
