Man arrested for being found with live pangolin

Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody 29-year-old Gift Njoma for being found in possession of a live pangolin.

According to assistant PRO for Lilongwe Police Alice Stima, they received a tip that Njoma was offering for sale a live pangolin at a price of one million kwacha.

“Police officers and Wildlife Department officials made an ambush at Chinsapo which resulted in the arrest of the suspect, who by then was possessing the said animal,” Stima explains.

The pangolin has since been handed over to Lilongwe Wildlife Trust.

Gift Njoma will appear in court soon to answer the charge levelled against him.
