Cyclone Freddy Survivors seeking shelter in schools decelerates teaching system in southern Region

Learners at Goma Primary School in Chikwawa are being forced to write their end of term examinations under trees as almost all classrooms have been occupied by Tropical Cyclone Freddy survivors.

Cyclone Freddy victims seeking shelter in public facilities have displaced and decelerated education system in various districts of the southern region of Malawi

One of the Teachers at Goma Primary lamented that the school have already have a shortage of classrooms and coming of Cyclone Freddy Survivor has worsened the situation as the school has an enrollment of about 2,240 learners.

On the same matter, learners at Australian Primary School in Phalombe are also experiencing the same problem as they are sharing same room with cyclone victims seeking shelter at the school.

Jacqueline one of the 2023 Primary School Leaving Certificate of  Education (PSLCE) candidates, has expressed worries about the exams coming ahead as sometimes parents who are sleeping in their classrooms may enter to correct their utensils when the teacher is teaching and this mostly disturb their lessons.

In his part John Nangalembe Headteacher at the school, has said that this is not good time to chase Cyclone Freddy victims at the school as they have lost everything including shelter.
