Police apprehend woman posing as MDF soldier in Mangochi

Mangochi Police have arrested a woman, identified as Memory Chokhotho, on allegations of posing as a Malawi Defence Force soldier based at Maritime in Monkey-Bay.

According to reports, Mangochi Police traffic officers stopped a Toyota Passo Settle registration BX4881 on April 24, 2023, at Chimwala Roadblock. The car was coming from the direction of Mangochi Boma and heading towards Liwonde.

Upon checking the vehicle, officers noticed a military jacket hanging on the passenger’s seat. When questioned, Chokhotho, who was in civilian attire, claimed to work at Maritime Base under the Intelligence Unit.

However, she failed to produce her service identification card and introduced herself with a suspicious number, leading to her detention.

Further inquiries were made at the Monkey-Bay Maritime Base, where it was revealed that Chokhotho had impersonated a soldier and was arrested immediately.

Chokhotho will appear before court soon.
