Zomba High Court to Decide Fate of Dreadlocked Students on May 8th

The High Court in Zomba is set to deliver a verdict on May 8th regarding whether students with dreadlocks can attend school.

The case came to court after two Rastafarian children were sent home from school in Blantyre and Zomba for wearing dreadlocks.

Chikondi Chijozi, representing the two children, said that Judge Zione Ntaba will make a final decision on the matter.

The Center for Human Rights, Education, Advice and Assistance (CHREAA), Women Lawyers and Southern Litigation Center have sought legal intervention.

The Ministry of Education has stated that there is no policy prohibiting learners from attending classes because of their hairstyles.

We will have to wait until May 8th to find out what the ruling will be.
