Mphwiyo replaced as director of budgeting, rumored to be deployed to foreign mission

While he is recuperating at Milpark hospital in South Africa, Budget Director in the Ministry of Finance, Paul Mphwiyo, has been temporarily replaced as Chauncy Simwaka has come in to take over the post as the acting Budget Director.

According to reports that FaceofMalawi is yet to verify, President Banda has ordered that Mr. Simwaka take over the office from Mr. Mphwiyo in an acting capacity after the crucial office has been vacant for over a month now following the shooting of Mr. Mphwiyo by what are suspected to be agents that wanted to silence him.

Meanwhile, earlier this week government indicated that Mr. Mpwhiyo is to take stay longer in the rainbow nation citing security concerns in Malawi.

President Banda visited Mphwiyo at Milpark hospital in South Africa yesterday (Tuesday, October 8) amidst tight security.

On the other hand, however, reports are rife that President Banda is considering sending Mphwiyo to a foreign mission. The rumours have linked Mphwiyo to the USA, Japan or Kuwait offices. However, if Mphwiyo is to be send as head of mission then President Banda is to meet the hurdle of the Parliament’s Public Appointments Committee for it is believed that Mphwiyo holds keys to the scandals at the Capitol Hill that came in the wake of his shooting.
