Govt stands on its decision to ban exportation of scrap metals

Government has backed its decision to suspend the exportation of scrap metals saying the move is aimed at protecting public infrastructure that is crucial in provision of social services.

On Saturday, government through the ministry of Trade and Industry released a statement effecting a six-month ban on the exportation of scrap metals arguing that the same is promoting vandalism of public infrastructure.

The decision has however drawn mixed views with others backing the move while others are against it saying it will deny people a chance to participate in economic activities that supports their livelihood.

Mayeso Msokera spokesperson in the ministry of trade while acknowledging on the negative impact the suspension of metal business might have on some people was quick to say the cost of vandalism of public infrastructure on national development is too huge to be ignored.
