Zambia President Hakainde Hichilema crowned as COMESA Chair

Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema has taken over the leadership of Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) Authority of Heads of State.

He has replaced Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of Egypt, who has been chairperson for the past three years.

Hichilema was inaugurated at the Comesa’s 22nd Heads of State Summit currently underway in Lusaka, Zambia where Malawi leader Lazarus Chakwera is in attendance.

The new chairperson has promised to ensure economic success in the Comesa and establishment of strong partnerships among member states.

Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye President has taken over as vice-chairperson of the authority.
