Govt warns school authorities against embezzling examinations fees

Government through the Ministry of Education has warned that the law would take its course on school authorities who embezzle students’ examination fees for forth coming Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) Examinations.

The warning was issued Thursday by Deputy Minister of Education Nancy Mdooko when she visited Mzuzu Government Secondary School in Mzuzu City where she went to appreciate the administration of the last paper of the Malawi Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examinations.

Mdooko added that this year’s JCE examinations have experienced less challenges.

She called upon students to have interest in elective subjects such as Clothing and Textiles, Woodwork, French and Home Economics among others to enhance their skills.

Division Manager for the Northern Education Division, Jennings Kayira said teachers who embezzled examination fees in the region have been disciplined.

Embezzling students’ examination fees is an act of misconduct in the Malawi Public Service Regulations and it is criminal in nature.

Meanwhile , more than 25 students have been affected which is unfortunate in Primary School Leaving Certificate and JCE and government has emphasized that the perpetrators are handed over to law enforcers.
