A 10-year old standard two learner at Chikwawa primary school Kallen Magwira of Mbenderana village in Traditional Authority Kasisi has lost her life yesterday after being hit by a motor vehicle along Kapichira-Majete road.
Public Relations Officer for Chikwawa Police Station, Sergeant Dickson Matemba has said that the deceased met her fate when a motor vehicle registration number BM9199 Toyota Hilux double cabin which was driven by Andrew Rietmann 26, who was heading from the direction of Chikwawa boma to Kapichira failed to control due to overspeeding.
He added that following the impact, Magwira sustained head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Chikwawa Hospital.
According to Matemba, the driver of the vehicle is in police custody and will be taken to court soon to answer charge of causing death by reckless driving which is contrary to section 126 of the Road Traffic Act.
Angry mob from the surrounding villages dug blocked the road immediately after the accident but were twice scared away by Police.
