Chakwera hails NGO for their pivotal role played in the society

President Lazarus Chakwera has hailed the non-governmental organization for their pivoted role which they play in various sectors to foster development in the country.

Speaking at the commemoration of non-governmental organizations day, at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Chakwera, thanked the NGO for their tremendous work which they are doing in various sectors.

According to Chakwera the transformative partnership between the NGO and the government of Malawi has saved thousands of lives during the operation tigwirane manja.

“I have been inspired by the power of cooperation between the government and the NGO in serving the most vulnerable Malawians, our partnership has saved thousands of lives this year, I must thank you for the way you all stepped up to hold hands during the operation tigwirane manja,” said Chakwera.

The Malawi leader also called upon NGO to work together for Malawi to archive the sustainable development goals (SDGs) and the Malawi Vision 2063.

“The achievement of SGDs and Malawi vision 2063 requires an NGO sector that has capacity to partner with others, we need a stronger civil society that can respond to shocks that Malawians face,” Chakwera said.

The 2023 NGO Sector Report indicates that the sector offers sustainable employment to Malawians with more than 21,000 jobs registered as current estimate.

NGO Day serves as a platform to acknowledge the pivotal role played by these organizations in various sectors, their work spans a broad spectrum, incorporating humanitarian aid, environmental protection, education, and health, among others.
