Court fines 4 people K20,000 each for Spreading false news in Ntchisi

Magistrate Court in Ntchisi district has ordered four people to pay a fine of K20,000 each for spreading false news.
State witness James Ngupa Muyira told the court that Aaron Msembo, 27 years old, Mercy Monang’ombe, 44 years old, Casten Masautso Tsogolani Kasunda, 34 years old, and Joseph Makola, 36 years old, committed the crime on the 7 December, 2023.
The four were spreading false news that police from Malomo station killed a man in October this year and buried him at a certain mountain in the same district.
Judge for the case Dorothy Kaluwa, said that although cases of spreading false information are increasing, this case is serious based on section 60 of the constitution of Malawi.
So far, all the accused have already paid the fine.
