DPP reacts to MCP’s interference

The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has blasted the Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) response to its disciplinary hearing, which resulted in the firing of some senior members.

In a statement DPP spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba said the party is surprised as to why the ruling MCP is concerned with internal matters of the DPP than with addressing its own failure to fulfill campaign promises.

Namalomba said Malawians still remember MCP’s opposition to political pluralism in 1993 and its recent dismissals of prominent figures within the party.

The party went further to accuse MCP of sponsoring anarchy in the opposition DPP.

“The DPP, however, is not surprised by the statement by the MCP. As a party that has been sponsoring rebels in the DPP, the MCP was bound to complain about the outcomes of the DPP’s disciplinary hearing,” reads part of the statement.
