Alfred Manyozo retires from active football

Former Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, Captain, Alfred Manyozo jnr has announced his retirement from active football.

Manyozo made the announcement in an interview with Malawi broadcasting cooperation (MBC) on Sunday.

In June 2023, Manyozo was suspended from Wanderers on allegations that he insulted his fellow players and was the reason behind the team’s poor performance that time.

However, Manyozo claims that some of his team mates plotted the allegations that led to his expulsion from the team.

“As the captain, I was expecting the best from them. I could not just watch strikers squandering scoring opportunities, but query them to do better and some decided to twist this and started claiming that I was insulting them and this was cause for the team’s poor performance.

“I was suspended, still the team went to perform poorly and failed to win any silver ware last year. The players lack hard working spirit, ” said Manyozo.

Manyozo has played for Wanderers for about 15 years and managed to won several domestic cups such as TNM Super League, Airtel top 8 and Standard Bank Cup.
