Techno Brain denies having a hand in Malawi e-passport system hacking

Techno Brain has come out of the cocoon to deny social media claim that the company is having a hand in the shutdown of the Malawi e-passport system at the Immigration Department in the country.

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera told Parliament that hackers have taken over the software that Immigration Department uses to print passport in the country.

The President went further to claim that the hackers are demanding MK2 billion as ransom.

But some people claimed that Techno Brain is behind the system shutdown as some government IT expert wanted to bypass the company.

Reacting to the news Techno Brain denied the allegations.

“Techno Brain had a contract with Malawi Government for operations of the system and supply of passports booklets but the contract was terminated by the Tonse Alliance administration in 2022.

According to the company, it handed over the operations and management of the e-passport system to Immigration in June 2023. This included training of Department of Immigration officers as well as handover of source code and all security credentials and protocols.
