LCP President pens MEC protesting Chilaweni Ward by-election outcomes

Leadership with Compassion Party (LCP) President Dr. Sally Kumwenda has officially penned the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) protesting the results of the by-elections conducted in Chilaweni Ward.

On July 23, 2024 MEC conducted by-elections in Mwansa and Chilaweni Wards respectively and in Chilaweni MEC Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja declared an independent candidate Maxwell Chipiliro Phiri winner.

LCP candidate Lucius Kasonya only managed to amass 56 votes and this did not please the party President who openly said the result did not reflect the will of the people.

Dr. Kumwenda accused Phiri of influencing the outcomes of the by-elections by giving out handouts which is against the law.
