Zambia Court Sentences Man to Five Years for Illegal Possession of Leopard Skin

The Namwala Magistrate Court in Zambia has convicted and sentenced 43-year-old Frank Manama to five years in prison for illegally possessing a leopard skin.
According to Salima Mvula, Assistant Communications Officer for Wildlife Crime Prevention, Manama was charged with possession of a prescribed trophy, a violation of Section 130 (2) of the Zambia Wildlife Act.
Manama was apprehended by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife on June 19, 2023, in Kafue National Park. Despite pleading not guilty, he was found guilty after trial on October 30, 2024, by Magistrate Derrick Chingube.
This sentencing underscores Zambia’s commitment to combating wildlife crimes and protecting endangered species.
