2 Jailed for Tampering and Stealing Water Meters In Lilongwe

The Lilongwe Magistrate Court has sentenced Mathews Simiyoni, 36, and Denicy Mphande, 70, to six months imprisonment with hard labor for offenses related to water meter theft and tampering.
Simiyoni was found guilty of stealing a Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) water meter and fittings from a customer’s premises in Mtandire, while Mphande was convicted for tampering with a water meter at her property in Area 47, Sector 1, in an attempt to reduce water bills.
LWB Chief Executive Officer, Silli Mbewe, has urged the public to report any cases of theft or vandalism, emphasizing the impact such crimes have on service delivery.
